First public alpha version of new GD Star Rating 2.0 is here, and while still not finished and unstable, goal is to have more users testing the plugin at this early stage and providing feedback. New website for the plugin is coming soon, with first graphics pack by the end of the month.
If you are not ready to deal with plugin that is still not finished and unstable, please wait until Beta or Final release before downloading. This release is for experienced users only. Database schema is not final in this version, and any votes gathered during Alpha stage might be lost later. As for information about using the new plugin, functions, shortcodes, all that is in the preparation phase, and will be available at the later date.

GD Star Rating 2.0 is 100% new plugin, and it the only thing it shares with old plugin is name. Plugin development is right now further along that Alpha #2 shows, but this version includes features that are usable at this point, and more features will be included once the code is stabilized. Over the next month, you can expect one new Alpha version each week. When plugin reaches Beta stage, most of the planned features for 2.0 will be included. Right now, modules for bbPress and BuddyPress (they will be included with the plugin), are not done yet. bbPress module will be added in Alpha #4 in about 2 weeks, BuddyPress module should be done by the time plugin reaches Beta stage.
Focus on this Alpha is not to test features. Right now plugin is some 80% done, but in this version, about 50% of code is included. Rest needs more testing and will be included more and more in next versions. First thing to test is database schema. There are 6 tables created by the plugin. Plugin Tools and multi sets panels are also functional. Panels Modules and Settings are used to set up the plugin. Right now modules are not completed, but whole modules engine is fully functional.
Main thing in this version is Ratings panel. From here you can setup each rating object. By default, plugin includes objects: post, user, comment and free. And page and attachments as inherited objects. Two images here are parts of this editor.
Rating objects can be set through several blocks of options and rules for: display, voting, limitations and insertion. Each rule allows control of the user logged in status, roles and conditions. Handling for all this can be expanded.
GD Custom Posts and Taxonomies Tools Pro plugin supports registering custom post types as rating objects. Each post type registered through this plugin will appear on the GD Star Rating 2.0 Ratings panel.
From now on, you can expect new alpha version each Monday.

Hi, on the next version of gd rating will it be possible to list posts with a status of “draft” in widgets ?
And to do wp_query from the administration part (the gdsr_sort & gdsr_order filters are not available when in administration)
Comment Link
Sorry for late reply. Yes, to both. But, query changes will be different and hopefully better to allow for more flexibility.

Millan,
Do you have any idea when we can expect a final Database schema? I have a project that I was really hoping to use GDSR2 on however my client is pressing me to get the site launched. Most of the features I require are in this Alpha version however we don’t want to run the risk of loosing votes once newer version are released.
Thanks,
-Andy Boehm

I have few changes in mind for next version, and I hope to have final schema with Alpha #4.

do you have an answer, milan, for my questions ?

I’m trying to get this version set up but it seems to be missing some key settings. For example, the “Ratings” page is completely blank. I don’t see any of the options shown in the above screen shots.
No other ratings plugin offers the options and features as yours, Millan. It’s the best out there! I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the new version
We plan on donating to as soon as we launch our clients website that relies on GDSR2!

Try using reset tools on the plugin Tools panel. Also check error logs on server for some info. I expected some initial problems, and all that will be fixed, but all extra info is very much appreciated.

I’m also trying to update from 1.9….maybe there is a conflict.
Comment Link
As I said 1.9 and 2.0 are not compatible, and there is no upgrade yet.

Hi,
Nice plug-in as I can see in ver 1.9.8.
I am about to work on a new project and really like to use GD Star Rating. May I know if you have a guess for when the stable version to be available?
Thanks again for the great plug-in.
A.

Sorry, but I can’t confirm stable release yet.
Comment Link
Thanks, will go with 1.9 versions for now and wait for 2.0.

Hi,
Thanks you for GD Star rating, it’s very nice!
I have one little request and I don’t know where to put it: I would like to recieve a notification (preferred by email) when someone posts a rating. Is this possible on the 2.0 version?
Thanks

Is this plugin not being developed any more? The beta was supposed to come out a couple of weeks after the alpha and it has been more than a couple of months now.
Comment Link
It is, but I haven’t released anything more. There will be new version out soon.
Comment Link
Will there be an option to give the stars based on catagory (for the same post)?
Comment Link
I am waiting for this new version too…from the description seems like it can rate anything anywhere, just what I need! and there are no plugins to do this ATM, this is the last hope for a decent rating system in wordpress for me
Comment Link
I’ve been waiting for the new version too! Hope it’s coming soon!

I’m sure this is a known issue and since it’s in alpha it’s understandable, but when I activate the plugin, none of the tables are created and for some reason I can’t delete any multi sets once it’s created. It’s weird because even after I physically dropped all the GD star database tables, the two multi sets I created previously are still there if I re-activate the plugin. Where is the data being held at currently in this build?

With the new star rating are you now able to to vote on certain post and not all of them ? Or can we do the star rating by Category ? Is it downloadable through word press now ?

Plugin is in alpha, very unstable and far from finished.

I was just curious for when it does get released. Will there be a function that allows one to display individual user ratings. I was looking to set-up a secondary like comment section. This way a user could submit a review of a post and I could have there rating displayed in the review/comment section. I didn’t see this feature in 1.X.
Thanks for the great plugins Millan!

Hey Millan, thanks for the update! I’m also wondering when you are thinking to release 2.0? Do you think it will be released this year? Thanks for awesome site and plugin!
Comment Link
Hi Millan,
We all know you are busy with your other products as these are the ones that generate the $’s, so appreciate that the free plugins will always take a back seat.
We’re looking to utilise the GD Star Rating and buy in to the premium support, but have been at a decision point for a while now. Do we jump onto the stable and tested 1.9.20 and accept the lower level of functionality or continue to wait for 2.0 and the enhanced functionality.
I know it’s not easy to confirm, but what are the chances of a stable 2.0 version being released in 2012, and will 1.9+ be supported from a WP version perspective?
Thanks

Hi,
I have resumed working on plugin, and I will have Beta version with most features released this year. As soon as the 2.0 is released 1.9 will not longer get any updates. Also, premium support will be valid for both versions of the plugin.

If I install and start using the alpha version will my plugin be compatible with the upcoming versions (beta, stable..) ? I know it’s still alpha and bugs are likely, but I accept the risks. The question is whether the continuation of the new versions till first stable would still use the same database from this alpha?
Comment Link
While in Alpha, I can’t guarantee that DB schema will change. Right now, all looks OK, and I am 95% sure that there will be no more DB related changes.
