WordPress 2.9

Finally, long awaited WordPress 2.9 has been released. Here is the overview of the most important new features and changes in this latest version, and trust me that there are many new interesting things. Also, read about Dev4Press plugins compatibility.

First round of Dev4Press fixes

In the last few days there were several bugs found on Dev4Press. Some of them were minor (that includes styling issues on some pages and some IE incompatibilities), and some were more serious (broken contact form and broken download links).

GD Simple Widgets 1.5.7 Lite

After more than a month since the release of previous version of GD Simple Widgets, here is the new version that fixes few minor problems with upcoming WordPress 2.9 and also changes some of the default rendering used for post based widgets.

GD Taxonomies Tools 1.5.0 Pro

Along with the Lite version of GD Taxonomies Tools, Pro version is also released. To avoid confusion with Lite releases, Pro will have different numbering and will start from 1.5.0. This is first official release of Pro version, so here is a short introduction on new features.

Upcoming Auto update plugin

All free plugin will still remain on the WordPress.org, and will be auto updated using WordPress plugin update as usual. But this is not working for premium plugins since they are not on WordPress.org. So, we decided to make our own update plugin that will do the same for our premium plugins.

New Dev4Press is now open

Welcome to new and improved Dev4Press website! As you already know, we at Dev4Press are dedicated to creating premium plugins (and soon themes) for WordPress and offer high quality support through tutorials, documentation, support forum and even email support through ticket support system.

Few months ago Packt Publishing published interesting book on WordPress 2.7 written by April Hodge Silver and Hasin Hayder. This is a guide for people starting with either WordPress.com or self hosted blogs. All chapters are easy to follow, with many screenshots that will help guide you.

For years Firefox was getting worse with every new version.  Before you start throwing rocks at me, please read the post to find out why I hate Firefox, and why they need to release 64bit version, yesterday.

WP Benchmark: 2.8.1

Now that the WordPress 2.8.1 is released, as promised, I have tested this latest version. But I didn’t want to show the same data again, so this time I will test WP 2.8.1 against WP 2.8. Also, for some of not so relevant data I will not use charts. This post will show data from testing both WP administration and actual blog pages.

WP Benchmark: Blog

I have completed the second stage of testing different WordPress versions. This time I have tested on some of the blog pages using the same conditions as for the previous tests. But, in this case, I have also tested number of SQL queries executed. And finally, we can see improvements in WP 2.8 performance on the server side.
