GD Star Rating 1.8.7

I wasn’t posting news about releases of GD Star Rating on this website for some time to avoid duplicating info with official GD Star Rating website. But, since this 1.8.7 is likely to be last release in GDSR 1.x branch, this is a summary post about what’s done and what’s coming in GDSR 2.0.

Adding features in GDSR 1.x ended some 4 months ago with GDSR 1.8.0, and all releases until now were maintenance only to fix bugs and improve on some features. In the same time, I have started basic preparation work for GDSR 2.0. And in the past week or so, I have started working on new version. At this point, new database model is created, basic rendering for admin panels and most importantly new and fully rewritten rating stars and thumbs with much simpler CSS and JS.

GDSR 2.0 will work on WordPress 3.0 and newer, and will have migration options to import data from old versions. It will have full support for multi-site networks in WP 3.0 and BuddyPress. Also, plugin will support different rating models for posts, pages, comments, users, links and anything else. First public alpha/beta versions are expected in May, with release date still unknown, but most likely end of June.

More info about the progress and even some screenshots of new interface can be found on official plugin website.
