Major update for Dev4Press Updater is here, and 2.0 version brings rewrite of the big parts of the install and upgrade procedure to solve problems on restrictive server setups, improves plugin core and adds new panels for news and promotions, and improves overall visual experience.
Previous updater versions were using WordPress Updater classes, but not to a full extend. So, in some cases, plugin was not able to install more than one plugin in case where installation has to go through FTP. To fix these issues, plugin update code is fully rewritten, and now uses WP updater classes more closely to allow full FTP support for both installation and update. Because of this, you will be able to update or install our plugins and themes on any server configuration that WordPress can support for direct (or FTP) upgrade.
To improve on user experience, all panels are changed to supported tabbed interface. Plugin own dashboard is improved to display extra information about available updates and information about your system. Also, dashboard will show you list of active discounts and promotions on Dev4Press. WordPress dashboard is expanded with the Updater widget that shows brief overview of the plugins and themes status and available updates with links for quick access to Updater panels. New panel called News is added where you can read about all relevant news from Dev4Press, all discounts and promotions and all latest releases.
New updater is a very different plugin from previous one and over time it will get even better with few more things planned for 2.1 (purchase panel and reverting to older plugin or theme versions). Also, new plugin will be required to use from October 1 2012, and anyone using older versions, must upgrade to new one by than. Until than, please test new version and report all problems in the support forum.
