GD Security Toolbox Pro 1.8: Aphrodite

GD Security Toolbox Pro 1.8 is the new update that brings a major new addon called Integrity Scanner, and important updates to Login Honeypot addon with few more minor changes.

Integrity Scanner can scan your WordPress installation files using files MD5 checksum and check it against the checksums list for a specific version. If any of the files have been changed, they will be found. And, the same can be done with all Dev4Press plugins and plugins and themes for WordPress.org. This is a fast scan method and a very reliable tool to quickly find out if there are some changes to WordPress files, some added directories or files or missing files.

Only stable versions of WordPress can be scanned (beta and RC versions are not supported), and the checksums for that are provided by WordPress.org official API. As for plugins, our own Dev4Press API system provides checksums for all Dev4Press Pro plugins and addons (versions released in the past year). As for the plugins and themes from WordPress.org, Dev4Press API also provides checksums for selected plugins and themes, but that list will grow over time, and new plugins will be included as needed. For using Dev4Press API, valid and active license for GD Security Toolbox Pro (or Dev4Press Plugins Club Membership) is required, and you either need Dev4Press Updater up and running, or you can add your Dev4Press API Key in the GD Security Toolbox Pro settings.

The scanning will be reliable only if you don’t modify WordPress core, plugins and themes you use. If you use a theme and you need to modify it, it is best to do that through a child theme, and leave the main theme unchanged (and that way the main theme can be updated). Also, if you install plugins or themes through FTP, some FTP clients might modify files during upload (line endings), so that will give errors when MD5 is checked.

Preparation for the major 2.0 release is underway, and the plan is to release it by the end of March 2019. This version will include updated plugin dashboard and a new addon called Malware Scanner. Integrity Scanner will be updated with a few more interesting features. Because of the malware scanner, the plugin will see more frequent minor releases to keep malware scanner updated.

If you notice any problems with the plugin, stop by the support forums to report it. Let me know what you think about the new version, and as always, suggestions are welcome.
