A new major update for the GD SEO Toolbox Pro, version 3.4, is focused on improvements to the Sitemap.xml module and support for the upcoming WordPress 5.5 bringing native sitemaps support.
The sitemaps module has new settings to control the use of cache – cache was already available, but it was always enabled, there was no way to disable it. Now, you have settings to enable or disable the cache and control how many days the cache is kept. The cache is useful because there is no point to change sitemaps every day because search engines can’t process changes that happen too often, so having a new map weekly is enough.
The plugin also has options to control the inclusion of Frequency and Priority information for sitemap items. Both of these are no longer used by Google to process a sitemap, but you can still choose to include them, and by default, both are enabled.
And, the plugin has a new tweak to disable sitemaps added by WordPress natively, from the WordPress 5.5 release coming in August. Sitemaps from this plugin are superior to native sitemaps, so there is no need to have both active.
