GD Knowledge Base Pro has jumped to new major 2.0 version, bringing more than 25 new features, many updates and bug fixes. Plugin now can work with any theme using special theme compatibility mode.
After few months of real-world usage on Dev4Press support website and based on the feedback so far, we are rolling out a new major release for GD Knowledge Base Pro, with so many changes and new features to bump the version number straight to 2.0. Plugin now has a lower price, starting from $40 for personal license. You can check out plugin features and prices from plugin home page and micro website (scroll to the end of this post).
Works with any theme
The most important new feature is powerful theme compatibility mode to allow the plugin to work with any theme even without the basic templates that would be needed normally for custom post types plugin uses. So, if you want, you can use the plugin with any theme through compatibility mode, or you can create extra templates for full customization.
And, the plugin is now fully responsive out of the box with lightweight responsive grid system Gridism built-in. If your theme uses some other grid system, you can still have Gridism templates from the plugin, or you can replace default templates with modified templates using your own grid.
More shortcodes, widgets and better Shortcake support
Plugin now has 12 shortcodes and 9 widgets. Shortcodes fully support Shortcake Shortcode UI plugin and they generate readable preview while in the TinyMCE editor allowing you to easily modify every shortcode without the need to remember all shortcode attributes.
As for the widgets, they are improved, better organized and expanded. Some widgets match the shortcodes, and everything have usable functions you can call inside your theme templates.
Table of Contents for Articles
If you have headings (H1 – H6) in your knowledge base articles, the plugin can use them to generate the table of contents for easier navigation, using the heading hierarchy if available.
It can be added automatically to articles, using widget into a sidebar or with shortcode.
Page Wizard Tools
The plugin adds a new tool called Page Wizard. This tool can create a static page that can serve as Knowledge Base home page and will insert into it some standard content using shortcodes for categories, search form, articles and product groups.
bbPress Integration
Plugin integrates with bbPress forums more closely, allowing you better integration of support forums and knowledge base to provide your users with a faster way to get support, and allow them to search for answers before opening new topic.
Plugin has a new widget to make this integration even easier. If you conect knowledge base products with bbPress forums, this new widget can detect this and connect forum and knowledge base with product information and links to articles and FAQ.
More new features and improvements
Live search has new options to limit number of results and it can be limited to search knowledge base for selected plugins only. Styling, templates layout and admin side interface are all improved. Plugin is faster and uses less resources, and it is tested with PHP7. Both example child themes are updated for new plugin version. And many bugs are fixed.
I am preparing many more new features for this plugin, and some potential ideas will be used first on the Dev4Press support forum and knowledge base website.
