Next steps for Dev4Press plugins and Freemius SDK integration

With the end of the year coming soon, here is all the news and plans related to adding the Freemius SDK to Dev4Press plugins, what to expect this year, and some plans for next year as well.

This year’s development was slower than anticipated, mostly due to the changes required to switch from one payment system to another. While the Freemius SDK integration itself is easy, the entire Dev4Press infrastructure required many changes, and the work took a long time.

Freemius SDK integration status

Currently, most plugins are integrated with the Freemius SDK. Exceptions are: GD Mail Queue, GD Rating System, and GD Press Tools.

  1. GD Mail Queue is currently under development, with the next major update expected in early 2026. The plugin will get very exciting new features related to queue, limits, and the use of webhooks for supported mail services. And, there will be new mail services included and supported.
  2. GD Press Tools will be officially retired by the end of this year, and next year, two new plugins will be released to replace it and expanded with new features. There is no timeline set for that yet.
  3. GD Rating System is the only plugin that will be stuck in a limbo, and right now, the Freemius SDK integration is not planned, due to the amount of work needed, as this plugin has free and pro addons, making everything difficult to sort out internally.

All licenses for these 3 plugins (and addons) that were set to expire this year are already extended by two years. Lifetime licenses for these three plugins are unaffected. New updates for these plugins will be available to fix any new bugs or issues, as has been done so far.

All other plugins, bbPress, and Dev4Press Plugin club memberships are available with Freemius SDK integration. All the plugins are regularly updated and are under active development. If you had an annual license that expired, this year we had monthly reminders with discounts to switch to the new Freemius-powered licenses.

Dev4Press Updater plugin will remain in use for as long as needed, and will get a minor update in December with some additional migration information. If you are using any of the plugins with Freemius SDK integration, you can remove Dev4Press Updater plugin.

GD Content Tools Pro rebranded as FormaPress

As for the GD Content Tools Pro plugin, it has been rebranded as FormaPress Pro and includes integration with the Freemius SDK. All new updates for that plugin will be delivered via Freemius under a new name. If your license for this plugin was set to expire this year, you will soon receive a very special 50% discount coupon for a new FormaPress Pro license with Freemius SDK integration on December 1, 2025, valid for a month.

Migration for Lifetime licenses

The final step for existing licenses will be completed in December, where all existing Lifetime licenses for plugins and memberships that have been integrated with the Freemius SDK will be migrated to the lifetime Freemius licenses. The process is expected to go like this:

  1. An email will be sent on December 1, 2025, to all email addresses associated with lifetime licenses eligible for the migration, announcing the actual migration date (most likely December 13, 2025).
  2. When the migration is done, each email will receive a notification that the old license on Dev4Press is deactivated, and another notification with the new license information from Freemius (including the license key).
  3. To use the new license, the plugin with the Freemius SDK must be installed first (and the old Dev4Press plugin version must be removed), and the latest plugin can then be activated with the new license key.
  4. All future updates to the plugin will be delivered automatically through Freemius SDK integration.

Next major releases

In December, SweepPress 6.5 will be released with some major exciting features. CoreSecurity will get another update before the end of the year, and for the first half of 2026, we have plans for major updates to GD Mail Queue, forumToolbox Pro, and a few more smaller releases as well.

Plugins System Requirements

SweepPress 6.5 will be the first release that will require PHP 8.0. PHP 7.4 reached end of life in 2022, and many known vulnerabilities affect all PHP 7 releases, making them generally unsafe to use. Even though PHP 8.0 has reached end of life, it still has significant usage. Recently, PHP 8.5 was released, so supporting the last 6 major PHP versions is plenty and allows us to update and modernize the codebase.

And, with the imminent release of WordPress 6.9, we will update requirements to at least WordPress 6.3, supporting the last seven major releases of WordPress.

For now, that’s all. December will be busy on Dev4Press, and hopefully all will go smoothly to complete the transition to the new platform. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Please wait...
