EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law will come into force on May 25th, 2018. And, now, Dev4Press Network website is fully compliant with the upcoming law. This post contains an overview of implement changes.
To get more information about what GDPR is, and how it will affect privacy on the Internet, you can start with the Wikipedia article here.
As for Dev4Press Network, we have implemented a lot of changes to make the website compliant with this law, and provide all our visitors and users with more transparency about the data collected, data storage and processing. This includes tools to get the export of all user data and erasing of user data on request.
WordPress version used on the Dev4Press Network is updated to 4.9.6, that includes various privacy and consent related updates. On top of that, we have updated all contact forms with additional consent acceptance controls, removed all old contact forms entries, and expanded contact page with new form related to privacy requests each user has under GDRP law.
Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy and Terms and Conditions are fully updated and expanded with additional information about the data processing, data storage, data collection, third-party data access and more.
The part that was very complicated to sort out are newsletter subscriptions. For newsletters, the website is required to collect explicit consent, not just an email. So, each subscriber now has to update subscription profile and accept our Terms and Conditions. Only then, the subscription will be considered valid. So, we are sending the new campaign calling for the subscribers to visit the profile page and update the subscription information including the selection of newsletters and acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.
Let me know if you have any questions about the changes or any suggestions to further improve privacy-related features.
