For the past 15 years, Dev4Press has been using MyCommerce (formerly ShareIt) as a selling partner and payment processing, and there are no plans to change that. But, we would like to offer some alternatives regarding payments.
Freemius is an excellent system that makes it much easier for plugin or theme developers to sell their products without investing much time and money into complex payment processing systems. Yes, there are shop integrations for WordPress that make things easier, but they require a lot of work to maintain, keep in legal compliance, and more. With Freemius, all that is taken care of. I will not go deeper into how Freemius works; you can check out their website for more information.
The Freemius is a very convenient system for end users to upgrade the license from the WordPress dashboard. The Lite plugin works as before; Freemius doesn’t force the upgrade, and it doesn’t force users to opt-in to anything; when the SweepPress Lite with Freemius code is loaded for the first time, users can skip the Freemius activation and continue to use the plugin as before. Later on, if the user wants to upgrade, they can do so from the plugin dashboard. Users have complete control over their privacy regarding the SweepPress plugin, and Freemius integration doesn’t change that.
When it comes to Dev4Press plugins, Freemius integration is only done for the SweepPress plugin. Freemius is used to prepare the Lite version on WordPress.org, and that version, from now on, comes with Freemius integration. If you decide to buy the SweepPress Pro from the Lite version, it will be processed and licensed by Freemius. You can still buy the SweepPress Pro on Dev4Press using the regular payment processing used for all other plugins on Dev4Press. In the coming days, new buttons will be added to allow Freemius to purchase from the Dev4Press.
If you already have a SweepPress Pro license or Dev4Press Plugins Club license, you are still using SweepPress Pro as before; nothing changes for you. You can download the plugin from Dev4Press and update it via Dev4Press Updater. This Pro version will not contain Freemius integration! If you want to upgrade to the Pro version, you can still do so from the Dev4Press website.
Currently, there are no plans to expand Freemius to other plugins, but SweepPress integration is being done to test Freemius as a platform and evaluate our options regarding payment processing. If this proves beneficial to Dev4Press and our users, we may expand it to more plugins in the future.
