GD bbPress Toolbox Pro 5.2 is now available, and it is a 6th birthday edition. The new version brings a lot of new features, several important updates and enhancements, including several bug fixes.
The plugin was released on May 27, 2012, for the first time, and since then has seen 25+ major versions and 70+ minor versions, it has been expanded with an unprecedented number of features, trying to bring bbPress powered forums closer to specialized forums software. The plugin shares a birthday with WordPress, and with WordPress turning 15, it is a double celebration. For the next few days, you can take advantage of the birthday discount, so hurry up.
So, the version 5.2 brings a lot of new features. Attachments module is expanded with the option to define upload directory for all attachments (under the WordPress ‘uploads’ directory). This way, media library can separate attachments inside the uploads directory from all other files. The directory can be based on the user ID, forum ID or forum name. Also, attachments thumbnails display can now show thumbnails for PDF and SVG file (with support for creating thumbnails for these two files available already in WordPress, usually through third-party plugins).
The plugin has a new Privacy module, currently including two options and one tool: disable logging of IP’s for topics and replies, and disable the display of IP’s. The tool can remove all IP’s from the database. With new privacy laws, you should either disclose that bbPress logs IP’s when users post topics or replies or stop the logging process if you don’t have any need for the IP’s.
The plugin also has a new widget to replace default Search widget. Currently, it can search all forums or only the current forum. More options are coming in the next versions. There are more updates available, so check out the changelog for more information. As for the bugs, there are two important fixes: PDF thumbnails not working and the problem with the first page of the Setup Wizard.
Let me know what you think about the new update, and please, report any issues if you find them.
