New plugin version 6.2 is now available, continuing the work on the features reorganization started with 6.0, focusing on topic views, many performance-related updates, and a number of bugs fixed.
Previous plans were to have version 6.2 released by the end of July, but some priorities have changed in the meantime, so that resulted in the earlier release. The next 6.3 version is on track for late August (or early September) release, with the 6.4 version following by the end of the year.
This release had two goals: bring custom topic views into the Features format and improve the caching and performance of the plugin. But, there are a lot more things that were added to this release.
Custom topic views added by the plugin are very popular, and very useful. And, now, there are few more new views added, and additional settings to make the existing views even better. New options are added to enable RSS feed for views (all public views), and to include pending topics in the latest topics views. And, there are 3 new views added, to show only pending, spammed and trashed topics.
The Feature for custom topics views is completely rewritten, with the improved handler for the views registration, arguments building, and few more things, including better optimization for some of the more complex views.
Another new Feature added is Lock Topics. This is not a new feature, it is a feature split from the Lock Forums. In many cases, the users might need one or the other, so there is no need to keep them as a single feature. Also, Lock Topics has support for our brand new free plugin: GD Forum Manager for bbPress and it adds lock topics actions into topic quick and bulk editors.
As for the plugin performance, there are significant changes related to the users of the forum visitation tracking and few other areas where plugin replaced multiple SQL queries with the single query with cached results. On a few types of forum pages, the plugin now can run up to 40% fewer SQL queries.
Other changes in this version include improvements to the statistics function and statistics widgets, various improvements to the plugin, and various bug fixes related to user stats, caching, user visitation tracking, and more.
