Finally, a brand new major release for GD bbPress Toolbox Pro is ready, and version 6.4 brings several new features, continues the plugin code rewriting and modernization process, and includes updates and fixes.
This new version brings many new features, updates, and improvements. But, it also makes some significant code changes that affect system requirements for the plugin.
GD bbPress Toolbox Pro 6.4 has updated system requirements. The plugin now requires PHP 7.0 or newer (and it will break if running on PHP 5.x), WordPress 5.0 or newer, and bbPress 2.6.2 or newer. Plugin no longer supports old bbPress 2.5.x, and it will not activate on websites running the old bbPress version!
The process of transforming various areas of the plugin into Features continues, and this time, email notifications have been moved to Features: Email Sender, Notifications, and Email Overrides. And, all the SEO related settings now have a new Feature too. Notifications have been expanded with a new type of notification: send email to keymasters or/and moderators for every new reply.
Plugin got a brand new Feature that will always be enabled, called Shortcodes. This Feature will register shortcodes that have to remain always enabled because many different plugin features use them, so they can’t be deactivated like BBCodes can be. Right now, the Shortcodes include QUOTE, POSTQUOTE, and ATTACHMENT. It also has a new shortcode called GDBBX_USER_PROFILE that can display different statistics elements for a user (similar to what is displayed in the user stats area and every topic or reply. New shortcodes are listed in the plugin Tools -> Shortcodes panel with available attributes and values.
Widgets have also been fully rewritten, using the new base Widget class, reorganized with autoloading, updated widgets interface, and improved visibility controls. Visitors Redirect feature has been updated to include redirection to the login page (with a redirect back). It has a new rule for redirecting topics with no access (that might require login).
Other new features include: Tweak to hide user role from displaying along with the profile link, set a minimum number of words for new Topic or new Reply titles, various improvements to the plugin core code, various improvements to many of the plugin features, many widgets related improvements, and a new plugin icon. This version removes the old bbPress 2.5 compatibility code. It also fixes several bugs reported (or found) in the past few weeks.
In May, you can expect next major 6.5 release (with focus on Attachments), with at least one more major release planned for the Autumn 2021 (focus on BBCodes and Tracking).
