GD Power Search Pro for bbPress has reached a major milestone, version 2.0. This version brings an improved plugin core, a few new features and improvements, a new dashboard, and the use of the latest Dev4Press Library in the core.
Version 2.0 is not a big leap in terms of features, but it is a big change when it comes to plugin core. The plugin is now based on the latest Dev4Press Library (branch 3.5) and it features an updated interface, better core code, and a new plugin dashboard. The dashboard contains useful information to start using the plugin quickly, with the option to preconfigure the plugin. The reason the plugin doesn’t really do this on its own is that there are different ways to set it up, and depending on user needs, it is best to leave it to individual websites to figure out what is best. For the majority of websites, the dashboard button will make configuration changes that will be best for full integration.
When it comes to the search, there are some very important changes:
- New option is added to ‘fix’ the issue with the search query where the post statuses are incorectly applied to the query, and now plugin will explicitly set the statuses in every case. This will ensure that query is alway correct and all topics taken into account.
- Topic statuses filter is expanded, and will show different list of statuses based on the user role, and moderators and keymasters can search spam, trash and pending topics too.
- After update, version 2.0 will behave as new installation (due to the shared library changes), and the plugin will import settings from the previous version of the plugin. Make sure to go through Update/Install screen to do that, and also, recheck the settings to confirm that all is fine, especially, because some settings have changed their location in the settings panels.
Let me know if you have any suggestions for new plugin features, and please, report any issues in the support forums.
