It has been a while since the last major update for GD Rating System Pro, but, the plugin has been stable, not too many new feature requests were coming, and most of the work has been postponed for 2022. This 4.6 version is the first of a few major updates planned for this year.
Version 4.6 starts the process of rewriting big parts of the plugin into more modern PHP code based on the namespaces, with PHP 7.2 being minimal PHP version supported. If you attempt to use the plugin on a server with an older PHP version, it will fail with critical errors! You can read more about that in the previous post. This first version has some parts of the code converted already, with an additional layer of alias classes registration to make sure old code doesn’t break, with a lot of deprecated functions and various other code changes. This new version requires WordPress 5.3, and it has been tested with the upcoming 5.9.
Do not upgrade the plugin to version 4.6 if your server doesn’t use at least PHP 7.2, and if your website is not on WordPress 5.3 or newer.
The new version includes some smaller updates and fixes too, for the plugin core and some of the extensions. The plugin also introduces a new version of our internal JavaScript/jQuery for use with the Rating Slider method. Updated Slider library will allow styling changes to the sliders, and options for that will be introduced in the next major 4.7 updates.
Various plugin addons have been also updated, and they will get more changes this year too. Previous addons versions have been tested and working, buy all the addons will get new versions soon, when needed. Analytics, Multi, and Code Builder Addons have been released now. As for the future updates, version 4.7 is planned for April/May, 4.8 is planned for September/October. It is possible that one more version will be released after that one.
