New SweepPress takes cleanup to the next level by adding support for the management of WordPress Options, Sitemeta, and all metadata tables. I have been working on these features for over a year, doing a lot of testing and fine-tuning the detection and discovery of the meta keys and options ownership to make the whole management system even more usable. Finally, I feel that the current state of these features is very usable and stable to include in the plugin. I have already successfully removed a lot of useless data from all Dev4Press-owned websites and many client websites.
SweepPress Lite 3.0 has the Options management panel, and SweepPress Pro 5.0 gets a full set of features, including management for WordPress Multisite Sitemeta and all the WordPress metadata tables. Pro edition also has an advanced method for monitoring the usage of options and metadata to get precisely which plugin or theme is using options or metadata. This method is highly precise, but it can impact website performance.
When it comes to Metadata management, the plugin supports all the WordPress meta tables. Each table can show the list of unique meta keys and the meta key source detection data and give statistical information about the number of records each meta key has. You can delete each meta key and all the meta records. But you can also preview all the values connected to that meta key. Plugin shows confirmation dialogs for every deletion operation, and will remind you about having backups ready.
Version 5.0 brings many more updates and fixes. The dashboard has been improved, various panels have had styling changes and tweaks, the Database panel has been improved, new Purge tools have been added, and the plugin has been integrated into the Admin Bar with the easy-to-use shortcuts menu. Each panel top of the page Help is expanded, and new Knowledge Base links are added to most of the panels.
The plugin knowledge base has been expanded, covering all the new features with new articles and user guides. There are 20+ articles and two user guides available.
There is already a list of planned updates for version 5.1 that will improve various aspects of metadata management. The new version is expected to be available by the end of next month.
