SweepPress Pro 6.0 is the biggest update to the plugin since its first release in March 2022. The new version brings eight more sweepers, data backup before removal, quick tasks for Options management, and many more tweaks, improvements, and fixes.
The list of new features and changes in this version is very long, and you can check all the details in the full changelog. Three major new features this time are 8 new sweepers, Options Management Quick Tasks, and targeted data backup before removal.
Version 6.0 (both Lite and Pro) adds eight new sweepers, bringing the number of sweepers to 54 in Pro and 51 in the Lite version. New sweepers include 4 sweepers to delete duplicated metadata records for posts, comments, terms, and users; 2 sweepers to remove orphaned terms relationships; a sweeper to remove unused terms by taxonomy; and a sweeper to remove orphaned bbPress replies.
Options Management is expanded with an additional panel with Quick Tasks that will help you quickly remove options automatically based on predefined criteria. Each task has a detailed explanation and a button to preview all the options the task is targeting so you can review everything before removing the data.
And, if you want to change your mind later, having a full database backup on hand would be great. Full backup is a great way to ensure that all the data is there, and after you remove something you later need, you can restore it. However, the problem with that approach is that a full backup can be massive, and extracting only some records from it can be challenging. Because of that, SweepPress Pro has a unique feature: it can create partial backups and only export to SQL file records that will be removed by the sweepers or via management panels. This will allow you to have small files with only removed data, and all the data will be in the INSERT format, so you can run those files on your database to import only removed records back!
When it comes to backups, most sweepers support it, and the only sweepers that can’t run a backup before data removal are sweepers related to repairing and optimizing database tables (nothing to backup), sweepers for transient data, user agent in comments and postmeta oEmbed sweeper. All management tools (options, sitemeta, and metadata) can back up data into a file.
SweepPress version 6.0 brings a lot more, including improvements to almost every panel, new sweeper settings, settings to expand the admin bar menu items, many improvements to the metadata handling (including simulation mode support), an expanded list of plugins for CRON, options, and metadata detection, many styling tweaks, improved JavaScript, and several bug fixes.
