Today, the latest and final version of Dev4Press Updater plugin is released – 4.8.1 will show deprecation notice for the Updater. And, there are more things happening behind the scenes of the Dev4Press website that will be revealed soon.
With most of the plugins getting Freemius integration, there are many elements of the Dev4Press network dedicated to services that are not relevant going forward. One of the shared services, is the Updater services used by Dev4Press Updater plugin. Today, version 4.8.1 is released, and that will be the final release of the plugin. On January 31, 2026, all the services running on Dev4Press website related to updater, will be shut down, and Updater plugin will effectively stop working. This is truly the end of an era, version 1.0 of Dev4Press Updater was released on March 21, 2010, over 15 years ago, and has been used on thousands of websites, delivered over 180,000 updates.
We are also preparing a huge update to the Dev4Press Shared Library, that will be used first with new SweepPress scheduled to be released in about 2 weeks. Other plugins will be updated with new Library soon after. A New Dev4Press website is in the works as well, and it will feature a full redesign based on the latest GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks theme and plugins. I don’t have an exact launch date yet, but it will take another few months to do it.
