Version 4.2 of Updater is here, with various enhancements related to display of errors and problems related to the update check on the plugin dashboard, various small fixes, and other general improvements.
The new plugin version is mostly focused on the handling of errors with the update process, and displaying properly formatted messages. In some cases, users were seeing no updates message, despite there was an issue with the update check.
The message about beta and other unstable updates is now displayed more prominently, and it is highly recommended to enable only Stable releases for the plugins when running Updater on the live websites.
This version also increases update check throttle to 5 minutes, so manual checking for new versions can’t be run too often.
Dev4Press Updater 5.0
The next major update for the Updater, version 5.0 is now scheduled for the release on June 29, 2020. The new version will be using the new API, and it will include other improvements, including the option to install older versions for each plugin or addon, sort of a downgrade option, useful for testing, or in case of the issues that may arise with latest plugin versions.
The plugin will also receive major rewrite to bring it up to date with the recent plugin updates Dev4Press plugins started to receive already, including new Dev4Press Library 3.0.
With the activation of new API, the current (old or legacy) endpoints for the update checks will enter the retirement phase. Legacy endpoints will remain active for the next year and will be permanently disabled on July 1, 2021.
