A major plugin update, version 2.0, is now available, bringing many new features, including online counts for some networks, new supported networks, print support, many improvements and updates, and many bug fixes.
The plugin now starts all new installations with Setup Wizard, and the wizard can help you start with some basic settings. And, when it comes to settings, network settings now use toggle panels to make it easier to understand which networks are active. New options are added for a few other things, too.
A major new feature is the support for getting online share counts for some networks with API support. For Facebook, you must register the Facebook application and provide an App token to the plugin. And Pinterest, Tumblr, and Yummly (yeah, Yummly is a new supported network) don’t need anything to use the API.
The count updates are all done in the background, once a day at the most, for every URL (to avoid hitting API limits and getting banned), and background tasks will run these updates when needed to cache counts when possible. So, it will not have real numbers out of the box, it will take some time to get the data, and the data will never be real-time since that is impossible without affecting loading speed.
Many other updates are related to every part of the plugin. These include a new shared library, improvements to various plugin parts, and log management panels with more information and data management options. There are a few bug fixes related to management and blocks. Many things are polished and improved, and the whole plugin is updated to pass PHPCS and WPCS code validation rules.
