Brand new, version 7.6 of GD bbPress Toolbox Pro is here. It brings 4 new features, updates, and options for many of the existing features, tons of other improvements with some fixes, and a new Dev4Press Library.
The plugin has been fully tested with the upcoming PHP 8.4 (tested against Beta #4). PHP 8.4 should be released in November 2024, and we will continue to test with upcoming Beta versions before that. At this time, we don’t expect any issues with the PHP 8.4.
The new version makes a few changes to existing features; from now on, the Footer Actions feature is always loaded and renamed to Footer Actions Bar. The plugin got a new Forum Actions Bar as a feature to be displayed for every forum listing page. The Forum Actions Bar will be used to add new actions or buttons related to the currently browsed forum. And, feature Mark as Read from now on, add a button into the Forum Actions Bar. For tweaks related to WordPress administration and bbPress, GD bbPress Toolbox Pro has a new feature called Admin Tweaks. It has only one tweak that can merge the Forums, Topics, and Replies admin menus into one.
Two main new features are Mute Forums and Mute Users. With Mute Forums, every user can mute any of the forums and completely hide the forum, its sub-forums, all topics, and replies when browsing the forums (and will not get any notifications related to muted forums or topics belonging to muted forums). This way, users can tailor their forum experience by hiding forums they don’t need or want to see. This feature adds a new panel in the user profile showing all muted forums for that user, from which the user can unmute forums.
With Mute Users, every user can mute other forum users and completely hide any topic or reply created by muted users (and will not get any notifications related to posts by muted users). Like Mute Forums, Mute Users will add a new panel in the user profile to see a list of muted users and unmute them. This feature has options to make exceptions and have user roles that can’t be muted (keymasters and moderators). At the same time, keymasters and moderators can’t mute other users because it is vital for those user roles to have a full view of the forums and other users’ activity.
To allow new panels to be added to the user profiles, the plugin has to override some default bbPress templates because bbPress has no other way to add new panels to a user profile. GD bbPress Toolbox Pro can disable this override, but in that case, you need to have an override for those templates in your theme with the required code changes. No override is required if you use GD Quantum Theme Pro for bbPress since Quantum templates already support this.
Other changes include updated links to the Dev4Press website, changes to the included icons font, updates to Mark As Read, Toolbar, and Not Found features, new settings, and more. The issue with some duplicated JavaScript code has been fixed.
