The new plugin version has been released with several significant changes to the plugin core, integration with the Freemius (for alternative payments system integration, currently for SweepPress only), and bringing Lite and Pro versions more in line.
For a while, when working on SweepPress, I had the issue that the Lite version was essentially a separate plugin that always took too much time to prepare and test because of the features only available in the Pro version, making the whole process very time-consuming. The goal now was to combine two code bases into one plugin with Pro features separated in the code to remove them for the Lite version without making other changes or porting changes from one repository branch to another where they may not resolve on their own.
To fix all that, I had to rebuild the Pro version to make it equal to Lite in structure to split the Pro features better and change how the whole process works. This means that both versions have been reset to the same version number. In the future, since the Pro version is updated more often, the Pro version number will be increased. If the changes added are related to the Lite version, too, the Lite version will be updated only if needed and will get the same version as Pro. So, you may have Pro 5.5, 5.6, and 5.7, and if 5.7 there is something related to Lite, the Lite version will skip all the numbers and get to 5.7. I don’t know if that is better, but it is less confusing and much easier to track and release.
The other significant change is that SweepPress will have a version that includes Freemius from now on. This means that the Lite version will always have Freemius, and from the Lite version, you can upgrade to Pro directly from Freemius integration. For this case, Freemius will be the official seller of the SweepPress Pro licenses. If you have purchased SweepPress Pro before or want to purchase directly from Dev4Press, you can do that; that will not change. The only difference is that downloads from Dev4Press will not have a Freemius code inside. This gives you two ways to get to Pro: install the Lite version and upgrade to Pro via Freemius inside the Lite version (this will use Freemius licensing), or go to the SweepPress Pro page, buy a license from there, and use the Dev4Press regular license code.
The other change is that Dev4Press Updater will no longer be able to replace SweepPress Lite installation with Pro. If you buy the Pro version directly from Dev4Press, you can download it manually from Dev4Press or use Dev4Press Updater to install and later update the Pro version. Finally, the big change concerning licensing is that if you download and install the Pro version, until you add the Dev4Press License Key, the plugin will work with all Pro features disabled (previously, all features were disabled until the Pro license was activated).
